Las Tamaleras De Loma Park
Tamales have brought the Perez family together under the same roof for 30 holidays, 2024 being the final record breaking year. This project captures four matriarchs’ dedication to cultural legacy and explores the generational evolution of a family tamalada.

In my family, three things are guaranteed to get us all together in one place: weddings, funerals, and tamales. In 1993, my Tia Benita started a tamalada, a gathering to make tamales, and the tradition survived and thrived over the past three decades. The story of this documentary captures the humble beginnings and heritage, while showcasing the 30th and final year of this version of the tradition. After making a record-breaking 939 tamales, La Tamaleras have hung up their aprons for good. The big question is - who will take up the tamale torch?

This short documentary was filmed in December 2024 and is currently in post-production seeking support of finishing funds or in-kind donations. This project is a labor of love exploring the impact and legacy of four women who nurtured and sustained of three decades of food, culture, and tradition within our family.
